We have condensed the last year of our activities into a booklet available to read digitally! Plus, food puns!

ON-SITE VOLUNTEER FAQs

A volunteer is in the center in the kitchen, treats in front of her on a table, wearing a black baseball cap and apron, head down looking at the task before them. To the left is another volunteer facing away from the camera, and to the right is another volunteer facing away from the camera. Another figure is facing away, walking out of the shot. There are donuts and Saran Wrap on the table, and the center volunteer is preparing to wrap them.

There have been a lot of changes at Our Daily Bread since COVID-19 hit, and we understand that you may have questions about coming back to volunteer on site. We have put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions for you.

HISTORY PROJECT

Four women serving food on the line- the photo is from maybe the late 80s? One woman has very big blonde hair!

As you may know, we have been working on archiving photos, articles, awards, and more from Our Daily Bread's history. Andi Nicholson, Kids Club Assistant, has been exploring cabinets, closets, and boxes and archiving what she finds.

"Our Daily Bread is a special place. It has a heart and soul that you feel as soon as you walk in.  Though usually bustling, the dining room has a sense of calm and community. As a Kids Club assistant, I get to work with amazing kids, helping with homework, playing games and chatting about their days. Unfortunately, when Covid-19 hit, we had to close Kids Club temporarily. In the meantime, we got a glimpse into how and why Our Daily Bread came to be!

While still providing groceries for our Kids Club families, we began working on the History Project, digitally archiving 35 years of photos, newspaper articles, awards, hand written letters and cards and other pieces of our story. As we shifted through albums a bigger picture emerged and told the story of how Our Daily Bread got its heart and soul.

Founder Cookie Vogelpohl had a driving passion to support people through hard times and form genuine relationships. Decades-old photos of guests and volunteers in our first building on Logan Street, features in local and national news and moving personal stories show how Cookie’s vision unfolded over 35 years. Her belief that each and every person deserves comfort and dignity is evident in the work she has put into making Our Daily Bread what it is today."
